Psalm 27:2-3 KJV says, “When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.”
David writes, “When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.” David is speaking from past experience; He remembers when the Lord delivered him out of the hand of his enemies. David has experienced seeing the faithful Hand of God deliver him from many adversaries. He knew even though it looked bad in the natural, that the Lord was faithful and strong enough to deliver him.
1 Samuel 17:37 KJV says, “David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.”
Those who trust in the Lord call to remembrance what the Lord has done over the years and speak in faith what the Lord will do. David begins to bring to remembrance that the Lord had delivered Him in the past from a lion and a bear who tried to kill the sheep he was shepherding. He reminds himself and informs King Saul about the faithfulness of God over the years. Then He begins to speak in faith that the Lord would give him the victory over Goliath.
2 Corinthians 4:13 KJV says, “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;”
When we remember the faithfulness of God over the years our heart begins to be filled with faith to face our present problems. When this happens then we have the courage to speak to our adversaries as David did to Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:45-46a KJV says, “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand;” The ultimate outcome is that we will see the deliverance of the Lord in our circumstances. We will not be overcome by our adversaries, but we will overcome them with the Lord’s help. If you are born of God, then you are an overcomer!
1 John 5:4 KJV says, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”
Today remember the faithfulness of God over the years and how he has delivered you from your adversaries! As you do that I believe the Lord will infuse your soul with faith to face the present adversaries and overcome them!
